From the Arlington Museum of Art:
“Announcing the opening of a new solo exhibition by Texas based Colombian-American mixed-media sculptor and installation artist, Bernardo Vallarino. Titled “Hard on Guns, Gold & God,” this exhibition is a thought-provoking and immersive experience that explores the complex and interconnected themes of armed violence, the paradoxical valuation of human life, and religion.
“Hardon Guns, Gold & God” will feature a group of comprehensive multidisciplinary artworks bridging a decade of Vallarino’s career to his new artistic direction. The exhibition will bring together a series of sculptural works that invite viewers to engage with profound and often uncomfortable questions about our society, values, and beliefs.
Bernardo Vallarino, whose work has been widely recognized for its deep social commentary, draws inspiration from his observations on the hypocrisy that exists between the rhetoric surrounding human life and the violent behavior of humanity. His thought-provoking art is influenced by history, the media, personal experiences, and his lifelong interest in insects and entomology.
Vallarino is a NALAC (National Association of Latino Arts and Cultures) fellow, holding a BFA in sculpture from Texas Christian University and an MFA in the same field from Texas Woman’s University. His work has been exhibited at galleries and nonprofit spaces across Texas, Oklahoma, York, England, and Barcelona, Spain. Vallarino’s impactful art has also been featured at esteemed institutions such as the Amarillo Museum of Art, San Angelo Museum of Art, and the Nasher Sculpture Center in Dallas.
The public is invited to visit the Arlington Museum of Art and engage with “Hard on Guns, Gold & God,” Vallarino’s powerful and evocative artwork that seeks to raise awareness, inspire action, and encourage dialogue about some of the most pressing issues facing society today.
“The Arlington Museum of Art is inspired by the thought-provoking work of Bernardo Vallarino,” Kendall Quirk, Director of Exhibitions at the Arlington Museum of Art says. “We believe in hosting artists that create work that makes museum goers question the message behind the work. Something that can stop them in their tracks and make them continue to ponder things even after they leave.”
