From Kilgore College:
“Sarah Theurer Hunt is an artist and educator currently based in Fort Worth, Texas. She received her BFA in Studio Art from Brigham Young University in 2012, and her MFA in Studio Art from Texas Christian University in 2023. Theurer Hunt’s work has been shown nationally and internationally, and her recent research examines the push-and-pull between spaces of labor, psychological non-locality, and the invisible workload of caretakers.
Artists’ Statement About the Work:
Measuring My Threshold examines the experience of mental non-locality of artists who are also mothers. In this body of work, Sarah Theurer Hunt considers the psychological landscape that is formed in the tension between planes of responsibility. The paintings recontextualize landscape as a metaphor, and the figure as an archetype for stewardship. Layers of paint and contrasting imagery push and pull the viewer between worlds, echoing the lens that results from the constant mental hum of motherhood management, and negating the importance of prioritizing one environment over another.”
