October 13 - January 15, 2024
From Jardin:
“Lauren Moya Ford: Green Thumb is the artist’s first exhibition dedicated to her printmaking practice. The show features a vibrant series of recent monotypes created at Flatbed Press in Austin, Texas. Ford began printmaking in the fall of 2021 as a way to extend and expand her drawing process. Although her print-based work has largely focused on meticulous, monochromatic intaglio techniques, Ford began creating loose and colorful monotypes as an alternative printmaking modality earlier this year. This process involves creating and cutting a variety of stencils which are arranged on plates using a variety of brightly-colored, hand-mixed inks. Once these are pulled through the press, Ford reworks their designs, recycling certain elements of the image while layering in new stencils, pieces of paper, and even bits of twine. In this way, each piece is a playful reaction to the one that preceded it. The works in Green Thumb are a joyful exploration of color, texture, and the magic of the spur of the moment.
