From Luz Art:
“I was born and raised in a small town in Texas to immigrant parents where I was shaped and molded by a strong Mexican American experience of hard work and self sacrifice for family. My artistic influences and love for art stemmed from the beauty that I found around me as my parents and grandparents worked the land and fought resiliently to instill in me cultural pride.
My experiences as a Mexican American shaped my views on many things and my love and style for art were guided by the traditions of culture. I learned to love my culture and people even more through the inspirational works of Diego Rivera, Jose Clemente Orozco, and David Alfaro Siqueros who painted the every day life styles of the Mexican people.
I am a self-taught artist working in several mediums ranging from painting, drawing, ceramic work and print making.
I never felt the need to exhibit my work until I felt God calling me to create works that would glorify him in technique as well as content. My body of works consists of two purposes: the first is taking what would be seen as the negative or challenging aspects of Mexican/immigrant life and transforming my family stories into art works that show God’s sovereign hand in suffering well for his name’s sake and second appropriately portraying scripture through the stories of the people that I paint.
“It is my mission as an artist to continue to paint how the Lord shapes people in their everyday lives through the simple stories of their pain, their joy and their trials.””
