From Mercury Project:
“Hilary Rochow’s Bio:
Hilary Rochow is a multidisciplinary artist and designer living and working in San Antonio, Texas. She holds a Bachelors of Industrial Design from Auburn University. Her formal training in both industrial and graphic design informs her illustrations of impactful figures on clean backgrounds as well as the simple detail of her sculptural works. Her lifelong adoration of the natural world weaves its way into her choice of animal and plant subjects. She has shown work at multiple galleries including Flax Gallery, Space C7, and FL!GHT. She also operates a gallery, Rojo, and studio in the Southtown Arts District in San Antonio.
Hilary Jean’s Bio:
Hilary Jean creates forms she finds humorous and touching on the absolute ridiculous nature of “being” and what that entails for everyone living crammed together in cities and stacked on top of each other. Her late night bus rides and working at an improv theatre in downtown Austin, TX have inspired many characters from this collection. It is an ode to the minds of the people she has come to admire along the way, their strength in facing what it takes to be a complex person in a sometimes unforgiving world, and the glorious exasperated expressions resulting from the complications.
Statement for Common Ground:
Common Ground is an exploration of the natural world and the all creatures which inhabit it. Abstract human faces in wire relief sculpture jut up against detailed portraits drawn in ink of animals, insects, and paws. It is a match and a conversation between two unconventional yet tender strategies of rendering life in monochromatic dimensionality. “
