From Craighead-Green Gallery:
“Ed Hall is a Dallas artist creating abstract minimalist paintings. Hall grew up in Detroit in the 1960’s and earned his BFA at Kendall College, Grand Rapids, Michigan. Hall worked as an illustrator for Hallmark Cards in Kansas City for almost 15 years, leaving Hallmark to explore his desire to paint.
Hall describes his compositions as abstracted landscapes. Through layering, scraping, mark making, and exposing underlying color fields Hall creates depth, both physically and visually in his paintings. The tension between light and dark, rough and smooth, transparent and opaque, make his work intriguing yet mysterious. In recent paintings Hall focuses more on these features by reducing pictorial elements. This trend finds a culmination in his piece “Listen to the Lion”. By finding the confidence and clarity to create a minimalistic body of work Hall listens to his inner “lion”.”
