“The Henry Edwards Distinguished Lectureship in Art is an outgrowth of the Edwards Family Trust, established in 1992 by Joseph Henry Edwards and Winona Edwards of San Angelo. The trust provides funding for the art program in ASU’s Department of Visual and Performing Arts. The lectureship is dedicated to improving the overall academic/artistic environment at ASU, especially the Art Program, and providing opportunities for cultural enrichment for the greater San Angelo Community.
The 2022 lectureship will be held at the new Mayer Museum on the ASU Campus and features two major Texas based contemporary painters – Lee Hill and Alexis Serio.
Lee Hill is a painter, architect and writer He holds a five-year professional degree in Architecture from the Texas Tech University College of Architecture. He has twice been a finalist in the Hunting Art Prize in Houston as well as a finalist in the Celeste Art Prize in Berlin, Germany. He is represented by the CAMIBA Gallery in Austin and the Cufflink Gallery in Fort Worth. His work is held in many corporate collections such as American Airlines, Riverside Resources Investments, NYC based Loews Hotels, The Marriott Corporation, Dublin Ireland’s TIFCO Hotel Group, SAMTX Investments and the JKB Realty Group as well as many private client collections throughout Texas, California, New York, and New Mexico.
Alexis Serio is Professor of Painting at The University of Texas at Tyler. Prior to her arrival at UT Tyler, Serio served four years as Assistant Professor of Art and Director of Foundations at Florida Southern College in Lakeland, Florida. She is currently Art Editor for the Wallace Stevens Journal, a bi-annual publication by Johns Hopkins University Press. Serio received her M.F.A. in painting from The University of Pennsylvania in 2000 and her B.F.A. in painting from Syracuse University in 1998. Serio has been a finalist for the prestigious Hunting Art Prize (Houston, Texas), completed an artist residency at The Gullkistan International Residency for Creative People (Laugvartn, Iceland) and participated in an international group exhibition at The Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum (Tokyo, Japan). She has an extensive national exhibition record and is currently represented by The Drawing Room (Cos Cob, Connecticut) and Edgewater Gallery (Middlebury, Vermont).”
