From Off the Wall Gallery:
“From a very young age, Alexandra Nechita has been hailed as a true artistic force. Born in Romania, Alexandra immigrated to the United States at one and a half years old. She began drawing as a toddler, and at the age of seven held her first solo exhibition in Los Angeles. Her talent was instantly recognized, and art critics and the media alike began telling the world about this rare child prodigy, a “Petit Picasso,” a master of line, color, and a visual language of her own. Today, Nechita is globally acclaimed for her monumental paintings and sculptures.
Since then, her work has developed to encompass her growth and transitions into adulthood, motherhood, and simply as a humanist on a profound and endless search for a greater purpose. Each piece is an expression of her personal sentiments and is the prism through which she continues to express her creative vocabulary.
Alexandra’s work has been displayed internationally, including exhibitions in Romania, Switzerland, Netherlands, Italy, France, England, Singapore, Japan, Australia, and New Zealand. Her art also sits in the permanent collections of museums throughout the world, including the Vatican Collection in Rome and The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland. Alexandra’s work sits in the private collections of A-List celebrities, among them Oprah Winfrey, Debra Messing, Melissa Etheridge, Calvin Klein, Whoopi Goldberg, and David Letterman.
Artists’ Statement January 2022
It is the human condition to find someone to blame, to point the finger on the opposite side of the street, when in fact looking in the mirror is the only way to a resolution.
This year it has become abundantly clear to me, both as a woman and an artist, that while accountability can be burdensome, it is the only way towards growth.
The responsibility of impacting change and evolving lies in our own assertion of what is wrong and what requires a voice. Too often the voiceless are reduced to their vulnerability of being a minority. Then, tragically, complacency sets in, and life moves on, leaving behind the issues and people that need championing. It is our duty as members of this mosaic we are collectively a part of, to uphold our communities and fellow humans.
For me, the art experience should stand unapologetically strong in its power to generate messaging through it and this mural represents how profoundly engaging imagery can be. I take my responsibility as an artist seriously and while my hope is to galvanize actual change, at the very least I would like to catalyze a conversation.
In this piece I’ve compartmentalized the narrative in a comic strip like way, acknowledging that any successful journey must endure a process and work together to Set The Stage.”
