From Mighty Fine Arts:
“Mighty Fine Arts in association with SPACE C7 in San Antonio, is proud to present, Selections from the Lockdown. As the title suggests, this exhibition is a sampling of the work created by Wheeler between March 15, 2020 and last week. During this time, Wheeler worked incessantly leaving behind more than one hundred works within several concurrent styles and media. Wheeler gives equal and often simultaneous weight to experimentation and observation. His process is one of appropriating, re- purposing, re-contextualizing, hybridizing…. toward a number of distinctive arti-factual ends that can range, for example, from the nostalgic to the critical and the gender-bending to the hyper-sexualized. As this exhibit will attest, Wheeler moves effortlessly between media, subject, and style. This show will feature work ranging from the abstract to the political, from the humorous to the absurd. With his roots on the high plains in Lubbock, Texas, Wheeler has been on the Texas Art scene now for over twenty years. With roots in Lubbock, Texas, his work has been shown all over Texas and beyond including exhibitions in Peru, Germany, Italy, Croatia, and Greece, to name a few. He has spent a summer in residency at the historic Ed and Nancy Kienholz schoolhouse in Hope, Idaho and worked with James Surls to help breath life back into his infamous studio in Splendora, Texas. Known for his love of collaboration, Wheeler has collaborated with some of Texas’s most celebrated artists most notably, Daniel Johnston. Wheeler currently lives and works in San Antonio where he is Director and Curator at SPACE C7 where he focuses on bringing the best of Texas contemporary art to San Antonio’s southside.”
