February 12 - March 10, 2020
River Oaks District’s recently-launched Casterline | Goodman Gallery will host acclaimed photographer and conservationist David Yarrow in Houston on Wednesday, February 12 in order to help advance the shared goal of both entities to bring unique and elevated art offerings to the Houston marketplace. Collaborating closely with gallery owners Robert Casterline and Jordan Goodman on the engagement, Yarrow will debut two new photographs as part of a month-long exhibition that has been conceptualized specifically for the Houston community. Yarrow’s photography will be on display at Casterline | Goodman at ROD from February 12 through March 10.
“We are honored to host acclaimed artist and conservationist David Yarrow at River Oaks District as he makes his anticipated debut in Houston,” stated Festival Companies CEO Rosalind Schurgin. She added, “His captivating photography seamlessly blends nature and humanity in such a way as to ignite salient conversations about the collisions of these two aspects of life on Earth. Partnering with well-respected galleries such as Casterline | Goodman allows us the opportunity to bring notable artists such as David Yarrow to the District. Further, his compelling visual work advances our ongoing mission to blend the worlds of art and fashion — as well as our accompanying goal of bringing the utmost in quality artwork to Houston enthusiasts via the District.”
Accompanying the launch of the exhibit, Yarrow will sign copies of his book Wild Encounters – which was recognized
by Amazon as Art Book of the Year in 2017 – while he is in town on February 12. A fan of Houston, Yarrow states, “I have visited Houston on several previous occasions, and I know it is a proud city that displays a great deal of Texan hospitality. I am excited to be coming back to a dynamic, thriving, and cultured city and to meet members of such a diverse community.”
Yarrow’s monochromatic pieces provoke poignant conversation about the relationship between man, beast and habitat. Having launched his career in sports – which led to him capturing a famousshot of Argentinian soccer legend Diego Maradona at the 1986 World Cup in Mexico City – Yarrow is now widely recognized as a fine art photographer and has shifted his focus to capturing wildlife over the past nine years. His intimate portraits of animals in the wild have garnered him a reputation as a fearless photographer who risks his all to capture nature in its raw and unadulterated state. His famed “Wolf of Main Street” piece photographed with actor Leonardo DiCaprio and former Wall Street stockbroker Jordan Belfort set the record for the highest-grossing photograph taken by a living photographer when it sold for $200,000 at a 2018 Sotheby’s auction.
