October 12 - November 30, 2019
“The fourth sculpture and installation art festival, Outta Space, sponsored by Sculpture Month Houston (SMH), begins October 12th and runs through November 30, 2019. The primary exhibition Outta Space location is SITE Gallery Houston at The Silos at Sawyer Yards. Thirty-four igloo-like art spaces in this defunct rice silo will provide a dramatic backdrop for the unique installations.
Daily tours by SMH volunteers are available. Volker Eisele, SMH President and Artistic Director, offers guided tours at 2:00 pm every Saturday during the run of the exhibition at SITE Gallery Houston. Also, there will be family-friendly activities offered by exhibiting artist, Henry Sanchez. Opening reception is on Saturday, October 12 from 6 to 9 pm.
Outta Space at SITE Gallery Houston is a dual-themed exhibition. The installations on the left side of the silos complex will speak to current environmental and societal issues: creative recycling options; science-inspired harbingers of coming cataclysms; burning social divisions The right side of the silos will be dedicated to artistic visions of alternative worlds such as the Van Halen crew might have found while searching for a new habitat or Le Petit Prince might have encountered in Antoine de Saint–Exupéry’s famous fable.
The following artists are participating: Suzanne Anker, Nicole Anona Banowetz, Joanne Brigham, Margaret Craig, Margaux Crump, Bill Davenport, Lina Dib, Mark Dion, Megan Gafford, Abhidnya Ghuge, Dave Greber, Ryan Hawk, Cindee Klement, Felipe Lopez, Steve Parker, Jonathan Read, Henry G. Sanchez, Margaret Smithers-Crump, Patrick Turk.”
