“My approach as an artist uses my lifetime of care work, my research on Survival Creativity, my somatic (sensing the body) training, social practice participatory experiment design, Adrienne Maree Brown’s Pleasure Activism, and PLAY.
Sign up karaoke-style and for the length of your selected song, you control your own weather system inside a fish tank.
Lights, bubbles, waves, and water set the scene. Bring or select from available objects, and use your hands to tell your own story about water.
The event is hosted by Buffalo Bayou Partnership, with facilitation by Trudi Smith, in conjunction with WE ARE THE ASTEROID. We will be on The Terrace above the Visitor Center, making dream videos of water on top of Houston’s original drinking water reservoir, The Cistern.
Mekeva McNeil, theatre artist and educator, will be sonically stewarding the event. Laura Conely, founder of Urban Paths Wellness Coaching and trained in post Harvey trauma reduction by The Center for Mind Body Medicine, will be on hand throughout.
Aiming for participation that is a representationally just sample of Houston’s population- the project especially still needs more people:under age 18, from/in City Council Districts E, G, H, J who were directly affected by Harvey who performed physical rescues (like the Cajun Navy)”
