From the gallery: “Generative Art Project, Austin’s newest art gallery, presents its first show: DNA Data Portraits: James Pricer. Generative art is an emerging movement that features collaborations between humans and autonomous, non-human systems. These “systems” can independently determine aspects of an artwork that would otherwise be made by the artist. Using code, algorithms, technology, and both analog and digital systems generative artists consider what it means to be human in the post-singularity era.
Pricer has used his sitters actual DNA Data to assist him in creating abstract video portraits. Works on display include a double portrait of a mother and daughter, a husband and wife, an obsessive self-tracker, a group portrait of non-profit volunteers, coders, and self-portraits of the artist.”
