July 12 - 25, 2008
This is one corporately-sponsored art event that doesn’t take itself too seriously, which is probably a good thing, considering that the artists were challenged to create new work with or inspired by Red Bull cans. Curated by Wade Wilson, selected works include a life-size bull kicking a china cabinet, a Houston Texan football helmet, and an aluminum portrait of Barack Obama. Despite the ridiculousness of the whole thing, they actually had a pretty impressive panel of local judges, including PaperCity‘s Catherine Anspon; artist, writer, and curator Rachel Cook; socialite and philanthropist extrodinare Carolyn Farb; G Gallery owner Wayne Gilbert; HAA CEO Jonathon Glus; Mackey Gallery owner Apama Mackey; art collector Lester Marks; and artist Angelbert Metoyer.
