From South Plains College:
“On View Now: Looking at People Exhibition Showcasing Melinda Green Harvey’s Photography
South Plains College Art Gallery is proud to present Looking at People, an exhibition featuring the work of photographer Melinda Green Harvey. Harvey, a Lubbock native, shares her journey and artistic philosophy through this debut body of work.
Harvey reflects on her work, stating, “Photography found me, and once I embraced it, everything changed. I have two guiding principles: always push myself to improve and love the adventure. This show, Looking at People, represents both principles. After years of avoiding photographing people, I pushed past my insecurities and gave it a try, expanding my photographic adventure. I’m thrilled to debut this body of work at South Plains College’s Art Gallery. Please step in and meet some of the people I’ve encountered lately. They won’t mind.”
Melinda Green Harvey’s photography is inspired by her father’s early lessons and her passion for capturing the beauty in imperfection. Her work focuses on the old, faded, and ragged, striving for honesty without sentiment. Harvey’s favorite days are spent driving back roads with a camera and no destination in mind. Represented by Broadway Contemporary Fine Arts Gallery and Charles Adams Gallery, her photography can also be found on Instagram @melgal and her website, melindagreenharvey.com. She also works in Levelland at South Plains Community Action Association as a grants writer.
An artist talk and reception will be held 5:00 to 7:00 PM, Thursday, March 13, 2025.
The exhibition is on view through Friday, March 14, 2025. All are open and free to the public. South Plains College Art Gallery is open weekdays from 8 AM to 4 PM and is located in the Christine Devitt Fine Arts Center at 1400 EM Barnes Dr., SPC Levelland.”
