From Southwestern University:
“The Sarofim School of Fine Arts presents the 2024 Fall Senior Art Exhibitions: Mic Dooley: Colorful Math: It’s Beautiful, Not Scary, Hana Faris: Still Life, and Reese Schornstein: Carving Doodles, at Southwestern University’s Sarofim School of Fine Arts Gallery.
Mic Dooley presents Colorful Math: It’s Beautiful, Not Scary, an explorative visualization of mathematics and color coding. Mic utilizes basic mathematical concepts and mixed media to visually depict numbers using color, putting fractals into perspective and visualizing music with colors. This exhibit of digital paintings, projections, and drawings invites the audience to approach math as a resource for creation, not the intimidating, scary mess painted by the unknown.
Still Life by Hana Faris presents a compelling series of charcoal drawings that explore the transformative journey of parenthood, interweaving themes of pregnancy, loss, and resilience. Through expressive, layered imagery, Faris captures both the physical changes of the body and the complex emotional landscapes within. This work invites viewers to reflect on the dualities of parenthood—the balance between joy and sorrow, self and change—and honors the enduring strength of love and support that sustains us through life’s most profound moments.
In Carving Doodles, Reese Schornstein turns simplified drawings into three dimensional works. He presents two bodies of work: wooden furniture that experiments with balance and form, and stone carving exploring the human figure and self perception. By combining these two bodies of work into one exhibition, the artist ties both back to their origin in his sketchbook.
The exhibition reception will take place on Thursday, November 21st from 4–5:30pm and will feature artist talks by each artist.
The exhibition will be on view from Tuesday, November 19th through Tuesday, November 26th. The Sarofim School of Fine Arts Gallery is open Tuesday–Sunday from 12–5pm.”
