From Sam Houston State University:
“The Art Department at Sam Houston State University proudly announces the First Generation (MFA Art & Social Practice) Thesis Exhibition, featuring the works of emerging artists Marcy Cavazos, Glenda Pivaral, and Magda Macias. The exhibition will be on view at the University Art Gallery from May 20 to September 7, 2024, with a closing reception on Thursday, September 5, from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM. This exhibition culminates the artist’s exploration of socially engaged art practices. Each project reflects a deep commitment to community, dialogue, and social justice. Marcy Cavazos’ Sacred Conversations explores spiritual dialogues and their impact on identity and community. Glenda Pivaral’s Social Mending is a participatory project that actively invites viewers to engage in acts of collective healing and restoration. Magda Macias’ Human Immigration Library is a multimedia installation that tells the stories of immigrants through a curated collection of personal narratives and artifacts. Join us for the closing reception on Thursday, September 5, from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the University Art Gallery. This event offers a unique opportunity to experience the exhibition, meet the artists, and participate in meaningful discussions. The reception is free and open to the public.
