March 20 - 23, 2024
From Cora Stafford Gallery:
“Cora Stafford Gallery at The University of North Texas is pleased to announce a solo exhibition of artworks by Chenxi Gao as a completion of her Master of Fine Arts degree. Home, Do You Remember Me, Home will be on view March 20 – 23, 2024, 1 – 5 pm, with a public reception on March 21, 5 – 6:30 pm.
Home, Do You Remember Me, Home explores the quiet complexity of an emerging sense of self in relation to the effects of time and space. Works in the exhibition records the shifting intimate spaces as well as the larger social and cultural environments as the artist, Chenxi Gao, moved from one home to another, from rural to urban, and from China to the United States. Gao layers and manipulates materials to discover dualities such as concealing versus revealing, safety versus restriction, and staying versus fleeing. The works visually echo her thoughts: Where do I come from? What do I do with my memories? Where am I going? The works ask questions without necessarily providing the answers.”
Artist Bio:
Chenxi Gao is a printmaking-based artist residing in Denton, TX. Born and raised in China, Gao earned her BFA from Baylor University in Waco, Texas and is an MFA candidate at UNT. By pondering her relationship with multiple living spaces since childhood, she explores her sense of self in the shifting of cultural and social environments.
