January 6 - 21, 2024
From 500X:
“plutón en acuario” is a solo exhibition by DFW-based artist Christopher Nájera. This small collection of drawings and sculptures are an offering to a new era in the stars. Through world-making, viewers are invited to step into a preview of the new world. Fantastical drawings and sharp concrete sculptures illuminate the day of epiphany, a day where three gifts were brought into a new spirituality a couple thousand years ago.
Nájera now reinterprets and recontextualizes this into a new era where new forms of existing are to be taking shape. Pluto will enter Aquarius later in 2024, and will remain there for 20 years. This will usher in a new way of being for all those who choose to embrace the shift. May you find love.
Christopher Nájera Estrada (He/Him, b.1992) is an artist currently based out of Fort Worth, Texas. He is currently a MFA candidate at Texas Christian University, he received his BFA in Studio Art along with a BA in Visual Studies in 2014 from the University of North Texas. His work deals with the intersectionality of queer and Latine identities, as well as the intersectionality of futurism and spirituality/healing. He uses the idea of spiritual protection to hold reverence for queer memories. Using drawing as a foundation, he incorporates other materials such as concrete, resin, and metal to create works that speak to a greater shared experience. He ultimately creates a space where these intersectionalities are brought to the forefront, re-wired and reinterpreted to alter the narrative with one full of celebration.
