“Camiba Gallery presents “discards vessels fragments”, recent work by artists Jason Webb, Benjamin McVey & Rebecca Rothfus Harrell. The exhibit opens on Saturday, March 4th with an artist talk at 6:00pm and a reception immediately following until 8:30pm.

The exhibit “discards vessels fragments” brings together work from three Texas artists examining objects in our everyday lives.  Jason Webb is an Austin-based artist who spends his Sundays driving through unfamiliar neighborhoods photographing once private possessions, now publicly disowned.  From those photographs, he studiously paints individual piles isolated against white
backgrounds.  San Antonio-based Benjamin McVey’s new series of paintings of vessels represents the artist’s search for quiet space, simplicity, focus and purpose in today’s increasingly complex post-pandemic world. These paintings invite the viewer to take a pause, meditate and reflect.  Austin-based Rebecca Rothfus Harrell documents states of flux across the country — remnants of structures that have a history but no longer serve their intended purpose. As she reinterprets these objects, she visually transforms the found structures into architectural forms, giving them new context and meaning.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS:
Jason Webb was born and raised in Round Rock, TX. He studied computer animation and studio arts at Jacksonville University, completing his BFA in 2008.  After graduating, Jason moved to Austin, TX, and refocused his visual art practice exclusively on painting realistic depictions of trash piles, abandoned buildings, and collections of cherished objects in acrylic. He has exhibited extensively in Texas and in group shows across the country. He is a three time Hunting Art Prize finalist and winner of the 2012 Eye’s Got it! Competition.

Born in Houston, TX, Benjamin McVey received his BFA from Texas State University in Communication Design in 1995 and his MFA from the University of Texas at San Antonio in Studio Art in 2012. Previously, he studied painting and drawing in New York City at the Art Students League and National Academy School. Since graduate school he has taught drawing, painting, and sculpture at multiple universities and colleges along with working with local art institutions. He currently lives in San Antonio, Texas where he maintains a vigorous studio practice. He has exhibited extensively and has works in both private and public collections. This summer he will attend the Venezia Contemporanea artist residency in cooperation with La Storta Exhibition Space in Venice, Italy.

Rebecca Rothfus Harrell’s ongoing fascination with infrastructure is rooted in the unique landscapes of the cities in which she has lived. Born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA , Harrell earned a BFA from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago (1999) and a Master of Arts in Teaching from Tufts University/SMFA (2005), after which she moved to Austin, TX..  Her work has been exhibited in a variety of locations including nationwide. She has attended residencies at The Helene Wurlitzer Foundation of NM (2019), Vermont Studio Center (2017) and The Banff Centre (2015).”
