“5&J Gallery at the Charles Adams Studio Projects (CASP) presents the 2023 iteration of the $#%& Show on Friday, January 6th, 2023, as part of Lubbock’s First Friday Art Trail (FFAT). Invited artists will meet curators Hannah Dean and Christina Rees at the gallery 24 hours before the exhibition opening, where they will be divided into teams and given a prompt. They will then create work, install and light the show. Previous $#%& Shows had material prompts of cardboard, clothing, and found art selected by the curators. The words “ring” and “leisure” have also served as themes. The 2023 theme will be announced Thursday, January 5th at the curator/artist meeting.
Participating artists this year include : Maisie Alford, Cody Arnall, Sarah Aziz, Harrison Brooks, John Chinn, Linda Cullum, Danielle East, Carol Flueckiger, Dirk Fowler, Aaron Hegert, Scotty Hensler, Kegan Hollis, James Johnson, Chisum Justus, Patrick Kelly, Jessica Lambert, Nathalie Lawrence, Lindsey Maestri, Zach Morriss, Hayden Pedigo, Chad Plunket, Ryder Richards, J Eric Simpson, Hills Snyder, Heather Warren-Crow, Bryan Wheeler, Jeff Wheeler, Jon Whitfill, Matt Williams, Sangmi Yoo, and George Zupp.
Hannah Dean, a former Lubbock resident for 15 years, is an artist and writer who currently lives in Cloudcroft, New Mexico with her husband, daughter, and dog. This is her 7th year of curating the $#%& Show.
Christina Rees is the former Editor-in-Chief of Glasstire, a winner of the national Rabkin Prize for Art Criticism, and now works in the private sector in North Texas. “
