From Foltz Fine Art:
“E. Dan Klepper continues to extract the uncanny from the natural world through art and photography.
Supernatural Attraction, a selection of new work from Texas artist E. Dan Klepper, opens December 10th at Foltz Fine Art. Klepper, a full-time resident of the state’s wild and scenic Big Bend region for over two decades, mixes art with technology to reconstruct the Texas landscape and its transformational characteristics into charismatic and, at times, startling conjurations.
“The formidable attributes of the high desert drew me to a life in the Big Bend, where I have a front row seat for the natural forces that shape our world,” Klepper explains. “I use both digital and film photography as well as video and computer software to produce my work, frequently taking multiple photographs throughout a day or a season, and then combining them to create the final compositions. The results often suggest the passage of time in minutes or centuries, depict altered realities and dimensions, and portray the curious laws of nature that guide our existence.”
The show’s standouts include Klepper’s 200 Moons, a spellbinding installation measuring eight by fifteen feet and composed of two hundred panels featuring the full moon rising over the west Texas grasslands. Birdcage, a mosaic of over one hundred photographs of winter birds perched on branches after a snowstorm, and Hybrids, a triptych of an unlikely merger between morning glories and jellyfish, accompany prints of hailstones and icicles photographed in ways that expose the magic of their hidden crystalline structure.
E. Dan Klepper: Supernatural Attractions will be on view at Foltz Fine Art from December 10, 2022 – January 21, 2023, with opportunities to view the works in person. For more information, please visit FoltzGallery.com.
