May 21 - June 21, 2022
From Devin Borden Gallery:
“Please join Devin Borden Gallery for a presentation of art and fashion by Houston-based artist and writer Laura Lark. Inspired by a 1945 traveling exhibition of couture, ready to order from the leading Paris designers, the Théâtre de la Mode was created to help resurrect the ailing French fashion industry after Nazi devastation. Including gowns by Lanvin, Nina Ricci, Balenciaga, Balmain and others, groups of dressed mannequins (at 1/3 scale) were arranged in backdrops designed by artists including surrealist Jean Cocteau. These miniature “fashion shows” toured Europe before making stops in New York and San Francisco in 1946.
Today the remnants of the of the collection are housed at the Maryhill Museum of Art.
The exhibition will be on view through June 21. Please check back for open days during May and June 2022 or make an appointment by texting 713-256-0225.”
