From Houston Baptist University:
“The worldwide pandemic forces us all to wear masks. Children and young people are particularly affected. With and without masks, anonymized and individual – this project picks up this tension with digital techniques. My models, 12 teenagers, 3D scanned with protective masks, facing them their 3D scans without masks. I deal with the tension masked/unmasked.
To do this, I combine analog and digital techniques to create the artworks. In the first step, the young people are scanned with a 3D scanner, with and without masks.
I edit the resulting files with software that gives me tools to sculpt.
I then save the results as files that are read and printed by the 3D printer. The 3D prints are then coated with bronze and patinated. The results of the project are presented in the exhibition, accompanied by sketches that document and interpret the creation of the works.”
