February 17 - April 23, 2022
From Tarrant County Homeless Coalition:
“Our Community, Our Neighbors is a creative challenge undertaken by artist Laura Hunt to bring the humanity of those who have experienced homelessness to light. Everyone has a story, and Laura makes the proactive connection between her art and the community issue of living without a place to call home. Restarting in 2021, after being delayed by the pandemic, Laura began her process of portraying 26 individuals, with 26 stories over 52 weeks. Portraits will be on display for a two-month long gallery showing in February 2022. “Laura has taken on an incredible personal and artistic challenge over the past year,” said Lauren King, Executive Director of The Homeless Coalition. “Everyone has a story and Laura has been dedicated to telling the stories of people our community does not often get to know. These 26 portraits do a beautiful job of capturing the humanity that exists in all people and continuing the conversation around homelessness in our community.” The opening night reception will take place on Thursday, February 17th, 2022, from 5-7 pm at Black Coffee, and the gallery show will run from February 17th to April 23 at the Templeton Art Gallery. About the Artist – Laura Hunt Laura’s subject, the human figure, has chosen her. Having gone through stages of interest in several genres, she always find herself returning to portraits and figures. She is drawn to the emotion expressed by the gesture of a hand or the tilt of a head and is fascinated by the divine spark, the infinite variety of the human face, and the tiny differences that make each of us our unique selves. ###
Tarrant County Homeless Coalition has been working with the community to end homelessness for over 25 years. The Homeless Coalition leads the community solution to homelessness by acting as a catalyst for community change and believes that we can achieve the vision of a vibrant community where everyone has a place to call home.”
