September 7 - 30, 2021
“Come see artist Mead McLean’s abstract paintings of celebrity shadows in person or virtually throughout September at Lone Star College-CyFair’s art gallery.
“We are excited to have Mead, a Houston artist and LSC-Montgomery art professor, share some of his series featuring surrealist images based on shadows of famous individuals,” said Bosque Gallery Director Jasleen Sarai. “He joined us for a virtual walk-thru to open his unique Famous Shadows and Shades show in our gallery and will be back for a virtual Q&A Sept. 30.”
McLean began making conceptual art after studying at The Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) from 2002-2005 and expanded to abstract paintings, sometimes with dimension, when he returned to SCAD in pursuit of a Master of Fine Arts degree he earned in 2010.
“I’ve been working on this show on and off for several years, developing ideas, repainting everything, redeveloping everything, and seeking out a new way to get these ideas across,” said McLean. As he began sketching everything digitally, he was able to get through more highly developed ideas more quickly. “It’s about celebrity and the way that it’s superficially constructed, managed, and maintained. None of their images appear – just their shadows. The pieces in this show are the most interesting of many drafts and versions.”
The Bosque Gallery is open for in-person viewing with social distancing 3 p.m. – 7 p.m. Mondays and 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. Wednesdays and Thursdays. Art images and gallery information is available on the Bosque Gallery website. “
