This exhibition examines portraiture, the artists who make them, and their subjects. A very old art form going back to ancient Egypt, portraiture enabled the recording of the appearance of someone. Whether painted, sculpted, drawn, or photographed, portraits have always been more than just a record. They have been used to show the importance, beauty, wealth, taste, learning, or other qualities of the sitter. Visitors can compare and contrast how different artists portrayed their sitter, contemplate how different media impact the portrait, and learn something about who the people were who sat for their portraits.”
