A two person exhibition featuring Sarah Fisher, Rachel Anderson
In Found/Loaded, artist Sarah Fisher collaborates with fashion designer Rachel Anderson to transform found objects as diverse and unrelated as dry cleaning identification stickers, sacramental furniture, grocery bags, and newspapers. Electric color, overt and covert use of text, and idiosyncratic patterning wrap and cocoon the objects in words to depict the psychological aftereffects of life in the human group.
The exhibition taps into a divergent array of emotions, from adoration to anxiety, awe to horror, disgust to triumph, fear to fearlessness, forgiveness to peace, and asks the question: how do we reconcile our primal craving for community and belonging with our yearning for authenticity and humanity?
Sarah Fisher is a multidisciplinary artist living and working in Houston, Texas. In addition to solo exhibitions in Houston’s Art Palace Gallery (Seen, 2017) and Front Gallery (Sarah Fisher: The Second Yes, 2019), Fisher’s work has been exhibited across the state of Texas, in the Texas National in Nacogdoches; 44 Artists From Texas: Part Two in Lubbock; Artspace III Regional Exhibition in Fort Worth; Assistance League of Houston Celebrate’s Texas Art and Lawndale Art Center’s The Big Show, both in Houston. In 2018, Fisher completed the BLOCK Program at The Glassell School of The Museum of Fine Arts Houston.
Rachel Anderson is a fashion designer and educator living and working in Lubbock, Texas. She is currently Assistant Professor and Program Director of the Apparel Design and Manufacturing program in the College of Human Sciences at Texas Tech University and serves as a professional member of the International Textile and Apparel Association. In June 2017- May 2019 she was awarded an artist-in-residency at Charles Adams Studio Project (CASP) in Lubbock, Texas. Rachel Anderson’s creative work and research involves interdisciplinary collaborations between fashion and art, interior design, theatre/costume, jewelry design, metalwork, sculpture, painting, and other multi- media venues. Her research narrows the gap between art and design disciplines, showing that the research methods of fashion design as well as the collaborating disciplines are innately similar. Her fashion design work has been exhibited at galleries, fashion shows, and academic conferences locally, nationally, and internationally.”
