Hernandez’s work, often personal in its meaning, ventures to examine emotional and personal issues. Through the use of oil paint, mix media mono prints, animals and nude figures you are confronted by imagery that is bright and colorful yet infused with an implied sense of yearning and emotional introspection.
The nude female figures are used to explore fragility, identity and emphasize the yearning of freedom; taking the figure back to it’s natural state. The abstracted and expressive portrayal of nature in the work is used to represent a personal space and a form of introspection.
Hernandez is a Texas-based artist and High School educator. She earned her Bachelor’s degree from The University of Texas Pan American and is currently pursing her Masters in Fine Art from The University of Rio Grande Valley.
Her career has taken her from freelance work, private classes, gallery assistant and now public education. She has come to realize that her passion lies in teaching. Although her choice of media is oil, her skills range from acrylic painting, printmaking, mix media, drawing and design. Being a versatile and well-rounded artist has allowed her to be able to teach students of all ages and all levels.
