Martha Blackwelder, the dynamic curator who oversaw the re-installation of San Antonio Museum of Art's Asian wing, has moved from curating to administration: she's taking the reins at Asia Society Texas, headquarterd in Houston. They're working on Asia House, a 38,000 square foot building to be designed by (yes) Yoshio Taniguchi, architect of MoMA. The new building will host ongoing exhibits from the NYC-based Asia Society’s Rockefeller collection, plus a theater housing performance, Asian cultural festivals and economic and political forums. This will likely be a major deal for Houston, particulary in conjunction with MFAH's Asian art push. We're glad to see Blackwelder taking it on!
