From Ro2 Art:
“Yasuyo Maruyama: Fragments of Identity
In Fragments of Identity, Yasuyo Maruyama presents a masterful exploration of portraiture as a window into psychological depth and human vulnerability. Through meticulously crafted oil paintings, she captures the fleeting nature of identity, dissolving the boundaries between real individuals and fictional characters. Influenced by classical realism and the distilled expressiveness of manga and anime, Maruyama’s work invites the viewer into a silent yet deeply personal act of interpretation.
A Japan-born, Texas-based painter, Maruyama has exhibited internationally at institutions including the Tyler Museum of Art, the HOKUBU Memorial Picture Museum (Sapporo), and Redbud Gallery (Houston). Her work has been featured in major art fairs such as Texas Contemporary (Houston), Superfine DC! (Washington, D.C.), and KIAF/14 (Seoul, South Korea). Maruyama is widely recognized for her evocative approach to contemporary portraiture, seamlessly blending Eastern and Western artistic traditions. A recipient of multiple honors—including the Sompo Japan Art Award and the ZOKEI Prize—she remains a significant presence in both the Japanese and U.S. art scenes.”
