“Angela N. Weddle is a professional visual artist, poet, and animator who is autistic, has cerebral palsy, and was born with congenital right hemisphere brain damage. A neurological anomaly and savant, Weddle has defied expectations, displaying artistic talent from an early age. She has taught and mentored students of all ages in art and poetry, and her poetry has been featured in Barking Sycamores Year One, edited by V. Solomon Maday and N.I. Nicholson. As a performer, she has read her work at PuroSlam, with the San Antonio Jazz Poets, and at other local venues.
Weddle is a contributing blogger, past board member, and animator for The Art of Autism, an international nonprofit. She has also lectured on autism awareness and advocacy to organizations such as H.E.B. and participated in a DreamWeek panel on disability and autism. Her art and advocacy have gained recognition in San Antonio Current, San Antonio Express-News, Spectrum News, and the online magazine PopSugar for her digital work in partnership with Apple.
Her art and animation have been featured in the University of Exeter’s ExDx Film project and as cover and portfolio content in Salamander Literary Magazine. Weddle has created cover art for the album All Without Words by Justin Morell and John Daversa and illustrated the cover of Nathan Spoon’s chapbook published by Third Man Books, owned by Jack White. She also illustrated the re-release of How to Parent Like an Autistic by K. Bron Johnson.
Weddle’s work has been exhibited in San Antonio’s Between Yesterday and Tomorrow and is part of permanent collections at Texas A&M University-San Antonio and University Hospital-San Antonio.
