From MixHaus Gallery:
“Are We There Yet? invites viewers into the experience of making art—an ongoing journey of discovery, refinement, and reinvention. For each artist, this process is filled with moments of inspiration, frustration, joy, and exhaustion. Shapes shift, colors evolve, and ideas transform along the way. There is no final destination—only the next step, the next question, the next possibility.
Much like a captivating book, the true delight isn’t in reaching the last page, but in the unfolding, twisting, and sometimes confounding narrative itself. In this exhibit, three distinct artistic voices explore this ever-unfolding creative process, evoking echoes of the past, moments of recognition, and glimpses of stories yet to be told.
Kristy Darnell Battani creates abstract, textile-inspired art using vintage print materials—manuals, textbooks, and maps—woven into new narratives. Her process deconstructs and reinterprets these sources, inviting fresh engagement with their ideas. She also creates abstract portraits of overlooked women leaders, emphasizing their contributions over appearance. Based in Austin, Texas, her work is in corporate, hospitality, and private collections.
Sharon Kyle transforms overlooked materials—rusted metal, wire, and distressed wood—into narrative art that speaks to resilience, memory, and change. Using assemblage, mixed media, encaustic, and sculpture, she elevates discarded objects into symbolic artifacts. A Houston native and NYU graduate, her work is exhibited nationally and internationally. Now based in Fort Worth, she continues evolving her artistic vision.
Hank Lumen is a Santa Fe-based weirdwestern painter who creates layered, textured paintings of cowboys, livestock, and celestial forms by shaping abstract tones into recognizable figures. His satirical, freeform titling reflects his playful approach to art and language. Inspired by prehistoric cave paintings and children’s art, Hank explores raw, instinctive beauty. He lives with his wife, Sheila, and their cat, Pickles.”
