January 10 - 19, 2025
From the artist:
“77 minutes in their shoes” is a gun violence awareness project meant to transport people into an elementary school where 19 children and two teachers were murdered in a mass shooting,” said Kimberly Mata-Rubio, Lives Robbed president and Lexi’s Mom. “The shoes photographed are those worn by the victims on the day they died. What if it was your child in these shoes?”
The concept of the show is similar to the campaign showing women’s clothes after an assault. The exhibit raises awareness of the gun violence epidemic and continues to share the Uvalde victims’ stories.
“I chose to share space with the Uvalde families, to hold their emotions and my own as I carefully photographed their children’s shoes. These intimate photographs create a permanent record of their loss while honoring the fortitude and resilience found in each individual.” — Sarah Sudhoff
In conjunction with the exhibit, Lives Robbed will be hosting panels from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Jan. 11 at Canopy Projects Gallery. The panels will present impactful and critical conversations with survivors, advocates, lawmakers, and leaders in the gun violence prevention field.
Through this exhibit, Lives Robbed, on behalf of Uvalde victims and their families, are continuing necessary conversations about gun violence and putting a face to the number one killer of children in America – guns.
