From Lone Star College:
“In “Bengal Bliss and Harmony,” Bangladeshi American artist Tasnuva Rahman presents a deeply personal exploration of identity, resilience, and transformation. Rooted in the rich cultural heritage of Bengal, her work reflects her journey as a woman navigating diverse cultural landscapes. Innovating with a distinctive style, Tasnuva layers mixed media on recycled materials, giving her art a textured, organic quality that echoes the multifaceted nature of cultural identity. Through bold lines, vibrant colors, and found objects, she creates an intricate tapestry of resilience, strength, and beauty, particularly celebrating the spirit of Bengali women.
Each piece tells its own story, drawing viewers into moments of growth and empowerment. The exhibition incorporates traditional Bengali elements like coins—such as the rare square and wavy ten-coin—and the elaborate patterns of rickshaw art, reimagined through a contemporary lens. Tasnuva’s creative process includes inscribing Bangla script within coin motifs, transforming everyday symbols into powerful narratives that honor heritage while embracing change.
As an artist with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Dhaka and currently pursuing a master’s degree at the University of Houston-Downtown, Tasnuva’s evolving identity and immigrant experiences shape her work. Her pieces reflect not only her personal journey but also the stories of Bengali women she celebrates, adorned in traditional attire and jewelry passed down through generations. The exhibition is a tribute to those who lost their lives in the July 2024 protests in Bangladesh, with each artwork symbolizing courage, freedom, and the enduring hope for peace and justice.
“Bengal Bliss and Harmony” is a dynamic, immersive experience, blending the old with the new, the personal with the universal. Through this innovative style, Tasnuva Rahman offers a compelling reflection on culture, identity, and the power of resilience, connecting viewers to the elegance and strength of Bengal’s heritage.”
