April 13 - July 7, 2024
From the Art Museum of Southeast Texas:
“The Art Museum of Southeast Texas (AMSET) is proud to present Alicia Eggert: All the Light You See, on view April 13 – July 7, 2024, as its 2024 spring exhibition. Alicia Eggert is an interdisciplinary artist whose work gives material form to language and time, the powerful but invisible forces that shape our perception of reality. Alicia is currently the tenured Associate Professor of Studio Art in the College of Visual Arts & Design at the University of North Texas. She received her MFA in Sculpture/ Dimensional Studies from Alfred University (2009) and her BS in Interior Design from Drexel University (2004). Eggert derives her inspiration from physics and philosophy, and her work often co-opts the methods and materials associated with commercial signage to communicate messages that inspire reflection and wonder. Through her artwork, she invites viewers to ponder their place in the world and the role they play in it. All the Light You See will focus on light as a medium and include two commissioned site-specific installations, as well as several neon signs, lenticular prints, and an outdoor installation. The installation The Future Comes from Behind our Backs will be re-created so that people can walk through the silk ribbon screens in the main galleries. This work was originally exhibited in a Dallas parking garage during the pandemic. A second site specific installation titled Your Magic is Real will be also be created for the Main Galleries. The work was originally commissioned by the Color Factory in Houston and is permanently installed there. The work is activated by visitors creating a closed electric circuit by touching two pads and holding hands. When the circuit is closed, the artwork lights up and plays custom music. Eggert’s exhibition will include a free gallery guide handout with an essay by independent curator, art historian and founder of Sculptural Things, LLC., Dr. Marin R. Sullivan. An opening reception will take place on Friday, April 19, from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. This event is free and open to the public and includes a lecture between artist Alicia Eggert and Dr. Marin Sullivan at 7:15 p.m. A FREE Family Arts Day will take place in conjunction with this exhibition on Saturday, May 4, 2024 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. For more info on this exhibition and upcoming programs, please visit amset.org or call (409) 832-3432.”
