July 2 - 3, 2022
From Rockport Center for the Arts:
“Rockport Center for the Arts (RCA) is gearing up for 54th annual Rockport Art Festival scheduled for Saturday, July 2, and Sunday, July 3, on the Festival Grounds at Rockport Harbor. Tickets are now on sale for the two-day event being held at The Festival Grounds at Rockport Harbor, adjacent to Rockport Beach Park and Aransas Bay.
Since its inaugural summer event in 1969, the Rockport Art Festival has become one of the largest and most celebrated annual art events in the U.S. with an estimated 10,000 attendees and more than 120 juried artists from all over the country participating each year. A complete list of participating artists is available for viewing on the event website at rockportartfest.com. The weekend also includes the popular Art Auction Gala slated for Friday night, July 1, which is already sold out with a waitlist for attendance.
In addition to providing an economic boon for Rockport–Fulton and surrounding Aransas County, the event is also the biggest fundraiser of the year for RCA. Together, the festival and auction events raise 50% of the annual operating budget, which helps to create and sustain the many free to low-cost visual arts and educational programs hosted year round.
Hours for the Art Festival are Saturday, July 2, from 10 a.m.–6 p.m., and Sunday, July 3, from 10 a.m.–5 p.m. Attendees can enjoy many other activities throughout the weekend, including a variety of food and drink options, live music inside an air-conditioned 14,000-square-foot tent, as well as a children’s activity tent complete with craft activities, face painting and live musical entertainment..
“We are very excited to once again be hosting this grand tradition on July Fourth weekend in Rockport,” said Karen Ernst, festival chairman for the Rockport Art Festival. “For over 50 years, the Rockport Art Festival has been a holiday gathering place for artists, patrons, and tourists alike under the tent on Aransas Bay. The event truly offers an enjoyable festival experience for all. It is both a celebration of creativity and the premier place to collect original works of art in a vast array of media and price points, as well as a causal festival experience for families complete with great food vendors, live music, a beer garden, and children’s activities. Did we mention the big tent has air conditioning?”
The Art Festival Store will also be open, with items such as event t-shirts and the traditional commemorative event poster, now a 30-year tradition, available for purchase. This year’s poster features original art created by Corpus Christi’s Jeffrey Neel McDaniel, celebrated for his vibrant paintings featuring the Texas coast. The original poster art painting, unveiled June 18 at McDaniel’s RCA solo exhibition now underway through July 31, will be auctioned live at the July 1 Art Auction Gala.
