Are you an artist who writes? Do you enjoy writing and thinking about art as much as you enjoy the process of making it? Passing Notes is seeking art-related writing for our upcoming issue. We are accepting submissions in the form of:
• Peer reviews– Reflections on the work of underrepresented, contemporary artists
• Contemporary and historical reviews– Responses to contemporary or historical artists / works
• Creative response– Share your musings, your fleeting thoughts, your daydreams
• Visual Responses – Images, photos, etc.
• Poetry
• Interviews
• Experimental text
Application Instructions:
As a community-driven publication, we ask you to please carefully follow the application guidelines. This supports our team workflows and minimizes the chance of being unable to review your application.
- One Form Per Submission: Use a separate form for each submission/title. Welcome to submit up to three!
- Final Versions: Please submit only completed work.
- Your Name: Include your full name, including elements such as capitalization, lower case, accents, etc., as you would like to be credited.
- File Naming: FirstName_LastName_Title.PDF or JPG.
- Length & Format: Texts under 1000 words, PDF format. JPG for images, links for media/audio.
- Reference Visuals for Texts: Please imbed/paste JPG images of the artwork you are reviewing with in the PDF.
- Permissions: Ensure you have permission to use any content that’s not your own.
- AI Transparency: Stay original, keep it ethical, own it.
- Additional Submission Methods: If you prefer other submission methods like voice memos or video calls, please email us.
- Your Work Stays Yours: If featured, you keep the rights to your work even after we publish it in Passing Notes. Keep publishing!
