the new media fellow at DC offers a unique chance to immerse yourself in an art institution’s fast-paced world, where you establish an arsenal of career skills. this fellowship is designed for creative individuals who are passionate about contemporary art and desire practical experience in social media, copyrighting, and graphic design.
responsibilities

content creation:

develop creative and compelling content for various social media platforms (instagram, youtube, facebook and tiktok) + e-newsletters that align with the museum’s brand and resonate with our target audience.

collaborate with museum staff + artists to create engaging posts, stories, and multimedia content.

community engagement:

monitor social media channels and actively engage with our online community by responding to comments, messages, and mentions.

foster conversations, encourage user-generated content and build relationships with influencers, artists, and art enthusiasts.

campaign management:

assist in planning and executing social media campaigns to promote exhibitions, events, and programs.

utilize analytics tools to track and analyze the performance of campaigns, providing insights for continuous improvement.

updating site content regularly on squarespace and managing other digital platforms, e.g., eventbrite and communications archive, eg., images, press clippings.

live coverage:

attend museum events, openings, and special programs to provide live coverage on social media platforms.

capture behind-the-scenes content, interviews, and live streams to give followers an immersive experience.

research and trends:

stay updated on social media trends, emerging platforms, and digital marketing strategies.

provide recommendations on how the museum can leverage new trends to enhance its online presence.

collaboration:

work closely with the communications team + executive director to align social media efforts with overall marketing strategies.

collaborate with other departments to ensure consistent messaging and brand representation across all channels.

qualifications

passion for contemporary art and a keen interest in social media trends and platforms.

strong written and verbal communication skills.

basic understanding of graphic design and multimedia content creation tools.

familiarity with social media analytics and reporting.

ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

flexibility to work some evenings and weekends, as needed.

time commitment
fellows must commit to working 15-20 hours per week, attend exhibition openings for exhibitions, and assist with additional special events during the internship. flexibility to work some evenings and weekends, as needed.
compensation
the awarded candidate will receive a stipend in bi-weekly installments of $800 from january 01 – may 01. the candidate will be responsible for finding accommodations and transportation. international candidates will be responsible for securing a work visa.
