Passionate and knowledgeable Art Gallery Assistant to join our newly established contemporary art gallery in the heart of downtown Austin. The ideal candidate will combine strong art knowledge with excellent client service skills to support our gallery’s operations and growth.

The successful candidate will join a collaborative team dedicated to promoting exceptional contemporary art while maintaining the highest standards of professionalism and client service.
Key Responsibilities:
- Welcome and engage with gallery visitors, providing informed commentary on current exhibitions, represented artists, and available artworks
- Assist with client relations, including maintaining collector databases, scheduling appointments, and following up with potential buyers
- Support the installation and de-installation of exhibitions, ensuring proper handling and documentation of artwork
- Coordinate with artists, art handlers, and shippers for artwork transportation and installation
- Maintain gallery’s social media presence and assist in marketing initiatives
- Process sales transactions and maintain accurate inventory records
- Assist with event planning and execution for exhibition openings and special events
- Represent the gallery at local art fairs and community events
- Contribute to exhibition documentation and archive maintenance
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Art History, Fine Arts, or related field
- Minimum 1 year of experience in gallery or museum (preferred)
- Knowledge of contemporary art market trends and history
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Knowledge of point-of-sale systems and Microsoft Office Suite
- Experience with art handling and installation
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities; self-motivated
- Available to work weekends and evening events, as needed
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Art History or related field
- Experience with gallery management software (ArtLogic, or similar)
- Knowledge of the Texas art market and collector base
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, social media
- Additional language skills
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand for extended periods
- Capable of safely lifting and moving artwork up to 25 pounds
- Visual acuity to inspect artwork condition and details
Schedule:
- Part-time, approx. 24 hours/week; typical hours of operation Wednesday – Sunday
- Additional hours required for special events and exhibition openings
