FotoFest 2024 Biennial Gallery Attendants

Hourly rate: $15.00
The FotoFest Biennial 2024 central exhibition, Critical Geography, reexamines traditional Western and historical understandings of geography while investigating shifting and emergent spatial realms.
FotoFest seeks to hire part-time, temporary gallery attendants for its six-week Biennial 2024 exhibition of photography, installations, and video. Gallery attendants greet and assist visitors, as well as monitor the gallery. They act as frontline ambassadors for the organization. All exhibitions and events will be held in March and April 2024 at Sawyer Yards in Arts District Houston.
Gallery attendants will undergo paid training prior to the Biennial’s opening on March 9, 2024. Training will include information about the exhibitions and artists, use of the printed Biennial Guide and the Biennial App, use of exhibition and data collection equipment, a campus tour, and safety protocol. You report to the FotoFest Office Manager and interface regularly with all FotoFest employees.
To be successful in this position:
Gallery attendants should ideally have an interest in photography and/or contemporary art, feel comfortable working with the public, and offer a positive, friendly and welcoming presence in the gallery. Clean and neat appearance are required for all attendants.
YOUR ROLE
Attendants will open and close the galleries, turn media equipment on and off, welcome visitors to the exhibitions, maintain visitors’ desks, count attendance, and report happenings to the FotoFest Office Manager or other appropriate staff. They may manage engagement with a work or works and monitor for inappropriate interaction to protect an artwork. Attendants will walk through the exhibition occasionally during their shift to view the artwork and visitors. A pop-up store, selling Biennial books and shirts will be installed at Silver Street Studios; retail knowledge is a plus. Some special events will require evening work, and the galleries are open every weekend during the Biennial.
QUALIFICATIONS
Qualifications include a good work history, high dependability, professional demeanor, and a strong customer service orientation. Must have a high school diploma or equivalent and ability to work with various personalities and people across various generations. Must be physically able to stand, walk, or sit for prolonged periods of time. Interest in FotoFest programming and events is preferred.
Opportunities to assist with the deinstallation of the exhibitions may be available after the Biennial closes on April 21, 2024.
