dallas art book fair is dallas contemporary’s annual fair that brings together regional and national artists, presses, publishers, galleries + book stores from all over. we will be expanding this year to make for a two-day fair in order to include more participants, programming, music + food and beverage vendors to make for a cultivated weekend of free programming. alongside an expansive exhibitor space, attendees can expect engaging conversations, readings + workshops throughout the weekend-long event.
saturday programming
1:00 pm – self-publishing conversation with steven monacelli, steven visneau + zac crain
protean magazine publisher steven monacelli and photographer steven visneau join d magazine executive editor zac crain in a conversation about the thrill and perils of independent publishing.
2:00 pm – workshop with utd planetary scientist dr. mary urquhart
scientist mary urquhart offers a solar eclipse-themed workshop. urquhart was a collaborator on the current DC exhibition of the film view finder by artist brian fridge.
2:30 pm – corsicana artist and writer residency reading with writer josephine birdsell
birdsell is a queer, nonbinary artist and essayist in recovery. their mixed media artwork and personal essays deal with issues of queer and feminine liberation, life and sobriety in subculture, and rest and recovery in the face of trauma.
4:00 pm – comics reading hour with chealsea akpan + cynta camilia
comic artists chealsea akpan and cynta camilia read from their respective comic books, LOVEFOOL and the space between nothing, and field fan questions.
sunday programming
1:00 pm – remembering the reading room, artist conversation
artists brandon kennedy, lucia simek, and terri thornton reflect on the impact and legacy of the former dallas gallery, the reading room.
2:00 pm – printmaking workshop with scout ryman
artist scout ryman leads a block-printing workshop using their stamps and designs.
2:30 pm – performance by ceci ceci
nicaragua-born musican and songwriter sings about her hometown and her queer identity.
4:00 pm – poetry karaoke hosted by riley rennhack from deep vellum
audience members participate in a rapid-fire poetry reading.
