The Midtown Management District is seeking a Cultural Arts Project Supervisor. You will oversee the implementation and coordination of a major Cultural Arts Project in the community. HueMan:Shelter (January 2024 – December 2025). You will work with artists of every medium, consultants, social service agencies, the city of Houston, METRO, private property owners, TXDOT, state officials and other team members.
HueMan:Shelter – Houston is one of seven national winners of the Bloomberg Public Art Challenge. On behalf of the city of Houston, the District was recently awarded a $1 million grant from Bloomberg Philanthropies to implement a two-year public art project along a major corridor in Midtown, Houston. The project includes 9 public art installations. Among other responsibilities you will be providing technical assistance to artists, social service agencies, Midtown Management Cultural Arts District, METRO, TXDOT and art organizations by participating in initiatives with the city of Houston and Midtown designed to support unhoused individuals.
Summary of Duties:
This is NOT a remote position. You will be required to engage in person with artists, unhoused individuals, the community, and executive staff for local agencies and the city of Houston. There will also be virtual meetings with the Houston team, and various Bloomberg teams.
- Implement the predetermined plan of action for each project, while keeping to timelines and staying on budget for each project.
- Participate in the preparation of artist selection processes to ensure goals and standards are met.
- Consult and function as a liaison with outside organizations, the community, and businesses.
- Work with the Project Director to setup agendas for Team meetings.
- Determine and follow through on action items.
- Project evaluation: we are working with an international evaluation team. You will be assisting in gathering accurate data for the project.
- Marketing – we are working with local and national marketing teams. You will be asked to provide information to the teams.
- Work with our current business contacts and develop new business contacts to foster relationships and build goodwill for the projects.
- Monitor program and project budgets in compliance with the District policies and procedures.
- You will be participating in the project’s Community Engagement.
- Public Speaking – You may be called upon to prepare and make presentations to public committees, Boards, or community groups.
- Works with the Director of Operations to draft policies and procedures and conduct best practice research for operation of the Cultural Arts District events/programs/services.
- Work with general direction to: Establish program goals and objectives; develop and approve schedules, priorities, and standards for achieving goals; and oversee program evaluation activities. Plans, implements, coordinates, monitors, and evaluates programs, which will include multiple projects.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Operations and Strategic Planning.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts, Arts Administration, Urban Planning, Recreation Administration, Public Administration, Marketing or a related field from an accredited school or university.
- 5 (five) years of progressively responsible verifiable experience in medium to large scale project management involving the Arts and Cultural Arts Project Management.
- Valid Class “C” Texas Driver’s License.
- Ability to get along well with others. Compassionate and kind.
- Experience and comfort in public speaking environments.
- Good time management skills.
- Experience in Asana and project management skills
- Must be able to adhere and meet deadlines on time.
- Experience working directly with artists and unhoused individuals in sensitive situations is a plus.
This is NOT an entry level position. This is NOT a remote position. This is a 2-year part time Grant Funded Position. There are no fringe benefits associated with this position. You will be provided with an office area, a work laptop and cell phone. We anticipate 20-30 hours per week, some weeks may require more hours depending on the programming. Overview of Midtown Management District
The Midtown Management District (the “MMD” or “District”) is a municipal management district created by the Texas Legislature in 1999. The MMD has the power to provide services and construct improvements to address the needs of property owners in the community commonly known as “Midtown”. The MMD is governed by a Board of Directors consisting of 17 people, the majority of whom are owners of property in the MMD. The MMD funds its operations through annual assessments of property owners in Midtown. Pursuant to its Service Plan, the MMD focuses its activities in five areas of service, specifically, (i) Cultural Arts (ii) Marketing and Perception Enhancement, (iii) Urban Planning, (iv) Services and Maintenance, (v) Public Safety. Current activities of the MMD include publication of the Midtown Buzz Newspaper, Midtown Cultural Arts Guide Map and eNews, maintenance of the Midtown website and 7 social media channels, provision of contract law enforcement personnel, provision of a field services crew to maintain landscaping in the public right-of-way and other public improvements in Midtown, and coordination of tree planting, neighborhood clean-up and beautification programs. The MMD also plays a key role in attracting, organizing, and supporting events in Midtown designed to create a deep cultural connection and a strong sense of community among property owners, residents, and businesses.
