“By The Sea” unveils the compelling wonders of South Padre Island and Boca Chica Beach through an unprecedented fusion of artists throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Here, the ocean stands as an endless well of inspiration, stirring a diverse gathering of seasoned and emerging artists together who work in a variety of styles and media from ceramics, wood, jewelry, paper, painting, watercolor, and more. Using landscapes, sculptures, and subtle storytelling, these artists aim to present their distinct interpretations of the beloved sea that has long captivated the community. Through an educational lens, this body of work celebrates the ocean’s glamour, capturing its radiant sunbursts, whispering greenery, beloved marine life, and the dynamic cadence of waves, evoking the spirit behind Brownsville’s slogan, ‘On the Border by the Sea.’ Featuring the artistic brilliance of Robert Andes, Jose Lozano, Ryan Henry, Eva Ryan, Gloria Reyes, Jimmi Keirn, Vivi Sanguino, Jenny Lundak, Fariss Ryan, Shelly Hamsa, Angel Loo, Ivan Benavides, and Audrey Lorissa.
The exhibition is the first of its kind in Brownsville and is comprised of both established and emerging artists. “By The Sea” brings together a diverse array of talents whose profound connection to the ocean serves as a primary source of inspiration. These artisans work across a myriad of mediums including ceramics, woodwork, jewelry, paper art, painting, watercolor, and more.
“We aimed to highlight the captivating beauty of the sea that surrounds us, echoing the sentiment captured by Brownsville’s slogan, ‘On the border by the Sea,'” remarked Jose Lozano one of the artists and curator for the exhibition. “By The Sea” seeks to leave an indelible mark on Brownsville’s cultural landscape, inviting residents and visitors alike to experience a unique convergence of art and coastal heritage.
The exhibition will run from January 20th to February 23rd, welcoming all to immerse themselves in the unparalleled beauty of South Padre Island and Boca Chica beach captured in artistic form.
