About Nick Carter
Born in 1987 in Philadelphia, PA, and currently based in Providence, RI, Nick Carter’s artistic practice spans painting, printmaking, clothing, installation, and performance. His work is deeply rooted in exploring woven structures as a site of conflict between image and material, surface and depth. By using materials like fabric, dye, bleach, and thread, and employing techniques such as tie-dye, shibori, machine sewing, and zigzag stitching, Carter seamlessly merges textile traditions with painterly explorations of space, color, and perception.
Nick Carter has exhibited his work in Rhode Island, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Maine, New Mexico, and internationally in Mexico City. His accolades include receiving the Harpo Foundation’s Emerging Artist Fellowship in 2014 and a Fellowship in Painting from the Rhode Island State Council on the Arts in 2013.
