June 9 - July 29, 2023
From the Brownsville Museum of Fine Art:
“The community is invited to attend the exhibition opening on June 9th, 2023 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. During this time frame the entrance is free to the museum.
The exhibition references a history of wrestling that has never been presented before in the United States. Its central focus is Mexican Wrestling, which spans over a hundred years since its arrival in Mexico and 90 years since its professionalizations. The exhibition will cover the period from September 21, 1933, the day the former Arena México was inaugurated, up to the present time.
It is a significant curatorial and museographic challenge as it integrates original and authentic objects from great legends of Mexican wrestling, without necessarily showcasing the sporting trajectory of each individual, but rather emphasizing their role as part of Mexican identity and history.
“This ambitious project would not be possible without the support of the Christian Cymet López Suarez Collection, described as the largest collection of Mexican wrestling in the world. It contributes over a hundred objects, which are part of a unique collection in Mexico distinguished by its quantity, quality, and uniqueness within the world of wrestling.
In addition to the exhibition, the Museum will offer other special events such as wrestling shows, conferences with special guests, and superstar wrestlers in various locations in Brownsville.
As part of the exhibition, the Museum will offer other events that will be announced on our social media.
