From Artes De la Rosa:
“Artes de la Rosa is proud to present Claudia Maysen’s thought-provoking solo exhibition Fabricated Games. In this exhibition, Maysen investigates the social, economic, and political systems that enable gun violence in America and the resilience of the communities that endure it. This captivating display includes installations, paintings, videos, and sculptures- a body of work that she began almost three years ago following the mass-shooting at Robb Elementary School in her home state of Texas.
“After the Uvalde massacre, I studied the AR-15 ammunition used there, its use as a symbol of freedom, how common it is to find it in American homes, and the ironic resemblance that these bullets have with flowers once they explode”, said Maysen, and added: “My research, which continues to this day, has expanded beyond mass shootings to delve deeply into gun violence and how it disproportionately hurts women, people of color and other historically marginalized communities across the United States”
Each piece in Fabricated Games is a reflection of the interconnectedness between power structures, cultural norms, and individual agency. An oversized chessboard and an interactive stacking game transform observers into chess pieces and Jenga players, to unfurl the rules of a pastime that is not about winning but about who loses first. Still-life paintings featuring flower-resembling bullets contemplate the transmission of toxic beliefs across generations. Neon-hued doll faces evoke the dehumanization endured by victims of this modern-day epidemic. Abstract mixed media pieces speak to resilience, provoke introspection, and inspire advocacy. The totality of the works fosters a thought-provoking conversation that is both enlightening and empowering.
Claudia Maysen is a North Texas-based artist whose work uniquely blends abstraction with representation, exploring social issues within our communities from the perspective of both a Mexican immigrant and an American citizen. Maysen employs a diverse range of mediums, from acrylic and watercolors to graphite and spray paint, to create mixed-media pieces that challenge conventional narratives. Her use of collages and three-dimensional elements, influenced by her background in architecture, adds depth to her social commentary. Maysen’s work has been exhibited in Wisconsin, Illinois and Texas, where she has received numerous honors and created public art in the cities of Dallas, Fort Worth and Keller.
Artes de la Rosa, a cultural center dedicated to preserving, promoting, and interpreting the art, culture, lives, and history of the Latino community. A member of the Fort Worth Art Dealers Association, Artes de la Rosa selected Maysen’s exhibition for its annual Spring Gallery Night reception, to be held on Saturday, March 29, from 5:30 to 8 pm. A bilingual (English/Spanish) Artist Talk will take place at 6 pm.
