“Dario S. Bucheli: Apariciones is the artist’s first solo exhibition in Houston. It will present a selection of his most recent paintings, as well as his first large-scale, site-specific painting.
In his work, Bucheli reflects on the cultural, political, and economic forces that define the contours of his experience as a Mexican immigrant in the United States.
The paintings bring together elements of pre- and early colonial Mexican codices, with references to contemporary American culture and politics.
Bucheli’s continual reflection on his individual experience as a Mexican immigrant guides the interpretive process in his work, and is characterized by the desire to contextualize his position within the broader history and politics of Latin immigration to the United States.”
