From MBS Gallery:
“Artist’s Statement:
Marcela is a study of a dancer. I was inspired by Marcela’s movements from the first time I saw her perform. I was immediately drawn to her improvisational expression. It is evident that Marcela embraces the beauty of imperfection through accepting and opening up to each moment, each step, each note.
The drawings on acrylic panels portray transparent, bold, acceptance; all qualities that Marcela radiates while dancing. I aspire to those qualities in my line work.
Artists Bio:
Drawing inspiration from the rich history of found materials, Rikkianne Van Kirk (San Antonio, TX) infuses her artwork with a deep sense of appreciation for the stories they carry. Her distinctive illustrative style brings these materials to life, transforming them into captivating pieces that resonate with audiences worldwide.
Rikkianne’s artistic journey has led her to collaborate with esteemed individuals and organizations, including Paul Smith and The Kurt Vonnegut Museum and Library. These experiences have enriched her practice and further fueled her passion for storytelling through art.
Central to Rikkianne’s work is her commitment to embracing the simplicity and imperfection of the hand-drawn line. In each piece, she strives to breathe new life into something old, something forgotten, something sentimental. Through her art, Rikkianne invites viewers to rediscover the beauty and significance of the overlooked, encouraging them to see the world through a fresh perspective. https://www.rikkiannevankirk.com/ @rikkiannev
Artist Bio Marcela Leal:
An improvisational artist born in Monterrey, Mexico, Marcela Leal (Marleblanc) transforms the impermanence of movement into a constantly evolving artistic expression. Her art transcends mere performance, becoming a form of meditation as she transmutes emotions into a continuously unfolding dialogue. Like her nomadic spirit, she attempts to leave a piece of herself in every place she travels, while also carrying a piece of each place with her. She currently facilitates movement workshops in San Antonio, sharing her unique approach developed through playful and intentional movement practices. @playflow__
