From Cris Worley Fine Arts:
“Cris Worley Fine Arts is delighted to announce our second solo exhibition featuring the latest works of Anne Allen, an artist renowned for her exploration of natural and manmade patterns through innovative drawing and painting processes. The exhibition, titled Animal, Vegetable, Mineral will open to the public on June 22, and run through August 17, 2024. This artist will give brief remarks at 5:45pm. Anne Allen’s body of work draws inspiration from her deep connection to the outdoors and her extensive background in printmaking, metalsmithing, and textiles. Utilizing photography and video to capture images from nature, Allen translates these visuals into intricate stop-action drawings. Her art uniquely transforms everyday observations into profound visual narratives. Animal, Vegetable, Mineral will feature a series of Allen’s recent works that reflect her ongoing fascination with the interplay between nature and human intervention. Previous works include cut- paper drawings inspired by dripped tarry lines on asphalt roadways, reminiscent of the Japanese art of Kintsugi and the action painting of Jackson Pollock. Delicate compositions of grasses deposited on beaches evoke the flora and fauna of the Indian Ocean, while abstractions of Cypress tree foliage seen from the perspective of a canoe transform into jagged shadows in inky watercolor and graphite. In her most recent works, Allen introduces a new level of delicacy and translucency by incorporating chiffon as a medium. These chiffon drawings are draped and suspended away from the wall, creating an ethereal effect that hints at erosion and entropy, inviting viewers to contemplate the transient nature of the material world. “We are thrilled to showcase Anne Allen’s alluring new works,” said Cris Worley, owner of the gallery. The use of chiffon gives a haunting quality that hints at a nostalgia of place.” Anne Allen was born in Seattle, WA and grew up in Fort Worth, TX. Allen received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting and Printmaking from the University of Texas at Austin and went on to receive a Master of Fine Arts in Metals from the State University of New York at New Paltz. She lived and worked in Los Angeles, Portland, and the Hudson River Valley before returning to Texas in 1999. She was a finalist for the Hunting Art Prize in 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2011. Her work has shown extensively in solo and group exhibitions throughout Texas as well as in New York. Recent projects and exhibitions include: Road Ribbon Mural: Temporal, Integral, Mural Exhibition (T.I.M.E.), Artspace III and Sundance Square Fort Worth, 2022 (mural commission); Road Ribbons: Lakeview Gallery, Tarrant County College Northwest Campus, (2020), Fort Worth, TX (solo exhibition); Big Benbrook Kintsugi: Installation, Art Tooth at SOMA, South Main, Fort Worth (solo exhibition); Marking Space/Holding Time: Irving Arts Center, (2023); Along These Lines: Galveston Arts Center (2022).”
